Meet Sidney Hanifa, France

Sidney Hanifa, a dedicated practitioner and certified SBL representative for France, embarked on a transformative journey through the Silat Buka Lingkaram (SBL) program. With a background in various martial arts disciplines and a career as an IT engineer, Sidney discovered in SBL a unique blend of physical conditioning and spiritual growth.

Interviewer: Sidney, could you share your experience with SBL and how it has impacted your life?

Sidney Hanifa: Absolutely. Before SBL, I'd say I felt stiff and lacked mobility. You know, I have a desk job as an IT engineer, so I sit for a good part of the day.

Interviewer: What changes did you notice after starting SBL?

Sidney Hanifa: SBL is like a daily dose of vitality for me. I practice it every day, even if it's just for 10 minutes. My day kicks off with a small body wake-up routine, and it really gets me going. I can say I'm a fan. It boosts my efficiency throughout the day.

Interviewer: How has it affected you physically and mentally?

Sidney Hanifa: Physically, I feel more in tune with my body. I'm 47 years old, and SBL helps me stay fit and feel great. I've tried various fighting sports before, like karaté, aïkido, jjb, boxe, Krav Maga, but SBL suits me perfectly. It's got the right spirit, the combat aspect, and the conditioning. I particularly appreciate that; I've never been a fan of running.

Interviewer: Were there any challenges when you started, and how did you overcome them?

Sidney Hanifa: Oh, definitely. At first, it was tough adjusting to a higher level. My knees cracked a bit, certain stretches were a challenge, especially for my toes and ankles. But the open buya exercises were probably the hardest. Despite the initial difficulty, I always felt better after each session, and my body thanked me.

Interviewer: Do you have any specific practices that you find most beneficial?

Sidney Hanifa: Tendon exercises, kura postures, and being mindful of body tension have been key for me. Over time, I've learned to feel and almost control this tension.

Interviewer: How has SBL helped you during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Sidney Hanifa: I'm almost grateful for the pandemic in a strange way because without it, I wouldn't have been able to practice as much. SBL helped me cope with the challenges of the pandemic and stay centered.

Interviewer: Any final thoughts or words of thanks?

Sidney Hanifa: I'm truly thankful for SBL. It has transformed my life. It's not just a fitness routine; it's a way of life. So, thank you again for everything!

In this conversational format, Sidney mentions the various fighting sports he has practiced, providing context to his journey with SBL.
